EH Belltown Gardeners on the Martha Stewart Show

Gloria was able to get tickets for the Martha Stewart Show on Tuesday, March 1st.  Five garden club members were able to travel by car or train to Martha's Chelsea studio in New York City on an almost spring-like day.

Bonnie crafted a unique gardener's hat from an old straw hat, some fabric cabbage roses, and embroidery appliques she made with bright green fabric.

We were seated as a group.  Many garden clubs from Rhode Island, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, CT, and Pennsylvania attended.
The garden clubs from Bedford, NY and East Hampton, Long Island, NY were seated in the center audience.  Martha maintains homes in these places.

Bonnie is taking a photo of the image of us on the audience monitor.  That's a stage light in the upper right corner.  The row behind us was not yet filled.

We ate at a cafe after the show and admired the boxwood-- Martha's favorite plant because it is green all year.  We agree!

We took home several goodies: a plastic trug, gardening books and a magazine, garden gloves, insect repellant, seeds and seed pots, a solar radio,
a poster, and compostable lawn bags.

Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the gardening tips we learned from Martha and her panel of experts on the garden-themed show that day.

Garden Club Meeting at It's So Ranunculus Flower Shoppe

The East Hampton Belltown Garden Club met Monday, February 28th
at It's So Ranunculus Flower Shoppe in Marlborough.

Floral designer, Leah Miner O'Hearn, demonstrated her creativity and style while arranging several floral designs.  This design was bouquet-style for a water-filled vase with a variety colorful blooms, grass, and greenery.
Leah starts a basket arrangement in floral foam
with lemon leaves and bear grass as a greenery base.
Leah adds colorful blooms to create the high points
and add texture, as well as color, to the arrangement.

The finished basket is a work of art--and a hint of spring after a long winter.

President Karen Gallmon proposed that the EH Belltown Garden Club contribute to the Dover Air Force Base Memorial Garden for the Fallen.  More information on this memorial garden can be found in your green CT Federation News, the newsletter of the Federated Garden Clubs of CT, Inc., or at the web site MemorialGarden-Dover.org
Club members agreed that it was a worthwhile project and voted to send a $200 donation to the Delaware Federation of Garden Clubs for the Memorial Garden at the Center for Families of the Fallen at Dover Air Force Base, home of the nation's only stateside military mortuary.

Sue Hewes proposed that we create an embroidery logo for our garden club to use on hats, capris, T shirts, or canvas bags. She showed us several options for a logo with a bell and a "catch phrase."  Members agreed to have her go ahead with the process.
Next meeting is Monday, March 28th at the East Hampton Public Library.
The program is "Yoga for Gardeners."
